Tool of the Week: CDN Dual-Sensing Probe Thermometer/Timer

—Contest now closed—

Sep212009

How many times have you been caught guessing not only at the oven temperature but the inner temp of the meat you’re roasting? If you’re wrong, at the very least, you end up with tough meat. On the other end of the spectrum, salmonella may temporarily become your best friend.

Here’s a godsend for those who tend to be temperature-challenged in the kitchen. The CDN Dual-Sensing Probe Thermometer/Timer simultaneously measures the temperature of the oven and the temperature of the food being cooked. You can even program the thing so that it starts beeping when the meat — or oven — reaches the temperature you want. What’s even neater is that it has separate, distinct sounds for each alarm. The sensor cable is 39 inches long while the stainless steel probe is almost seven inches long. Plus, the temperature ranges from 32 to 573 degrees F, so you can also rely on it to chill foods and liquids.

Convinced? Buy it here:

Or win it FREE by leaving a comment below. We’ll choose a random reader at the end of the week; only one comment per live body, please. In the future, we’ll be judging giveaways by creativity, but now, if you win, you’ll have the honor of being the very first giveaway winner at BehindTheKnife.com. A story to tell the grandkids, not to mention a pretty handy kitchen tool to boot.

Thank God for CDN! This is the perfect probe for checking both my own temperature and simultaneously that of the small siamese twin that lives in my stomach.

In these harrowing days of concern over the sine flu epidemic, this wonderful invention at last allows us to apply the medication just to the one who most needs it.

Jessica Sep 27 2009

I love that this is so accurate AND easy to use, thanks for the wonderful giveaway!

Sarah Z Sep 27 2009

I have been wanting a meat thermometer for awhile so this would be great!

Pamela Sep 27 2009

I could certainly use this! Our oven has NEVER cooked at the proper temperature. So when cooking something I try to “guess” about how much to alter the recommended cooking temperature. But I do end up with some things cooked horribly wrong with my “guess” technique. A thermometer like this might save a lot of meals for me. THanks.

Mollie G. Sep 27 2009

I personally would love this, because our oven is starting to get just a bit “unpredictable” (suffering from “senior moments”, let us say)… The biggest problem, however, would be to keep my HUSBAND from using it to check the temperature in the attic, or the hot water in the shower, or the radiator temperature in his car, or — you get the picture…

But sure, add me in to your contest entries!

jody Sep 27 2009

I am a terrible cooker of meats so this would really help.

gloria Sep 27 2009

This would be great to use! I always guess about the temperature of the food.

Adele Zuerner Sep 27 2009

This looks like a super kitchen tool to have, taking the guess work out of “knowing” when a roast/meat is done. Thank you for the opportunity to enter as a meat lover I certainly would use this often.

Tracy Sep 27 2009

My husband and I both grew up in homes with burnt and overcooked meat. I have done everything in my power to correct this, but sometimes serve things ‘a little too pink’ – and this is the worst thing I could possibly do, in my husbands eyes at least. I’d LOVE to get a thermometer that could bring peace to our home :) Tall order, eh?
