Tool of the Week: The DaysAgo Digital Day Counter

—Contest now closed—

Dec212009

It’s Christmas week, and to celebrate the holiday season and also to clear out some room in the BehindTheKnife office, I hereby declare that every post from now through the end of the year will be a Tool of the Week, that is to say, more accurately, a free tool giveaway.

First up: A set of DaysAgo digital day counters. Have you ever wondered just how old that plastic container of whatever is in the back of your refrigerator? Bet you don’t even want to open it up!

DaysAgo is the answer to your prayers. Attach one of these to a can or bottle via magnet, rubber band, or suction, set the timer, and it’ll keep track of exact how long ago the food was fresh. You can also get creative and use the counters to keep track of non-food items, like changing the oil in your car, watering a plant, pilling your dog, the possibilities are endless.

I have a bunch of these things in house, so I’m going to give two packs away to each of three winners. Unless I unearth more in the course of my Tool of the Week/Day marathon. Then I’ll choose more. So enter early and often!

Win One!

Three (or more) lucky BehindTheKnife.com readers will win two sets of DaysAgo Digital Day Counters FREE, a $16.00 value at $8 each. Just leave a comment below by Monday December 28th, 11:59 p.m. This week, comment about the nastiest pack of old food you’ve EVER found in your refrigerator and how you disposed of it.

BONUS! Get an extra chance to win by also signing up for our newsletter, The Blowtorch.

I love these. Maybe I can put them in my sons socks to see how long he goes between changing.

I had some pretty old chicken in a container and made the mistake of opening it to see what was inside. Ugg the smell was awful. I ended up running thru the house to outside garbage can. Boy did the smell linger a while.

I once put cut up raw chicken in the meat compartment and forgot all about it. One morning a few days later I opened the fridge and almost barfed. Ugh! once you have smelled the smell of rotting raw chicken you will NEVER forget it. I dumped it in a plastic bag and put that in another plastic bag and then that into another…well you get the idea. I put it out in the garbage and took it to the curb. It was a long time until I could eat any chicken at all.

I found some left over mashed potatoes in the frig that I had forgotten about. When found they needed a hair cut. Gag..

Maria Dec 22 2009

We’ve left chili for weeks, no MONTHS on end with intentions of eating it later. Disposal of the extremely expired dish included a lot of pinching of noses, breath holding, & a bit of gagging. It wasn’t funny at the time, but in retrospect… we can look back and laugh at the moment.

Worst looking left overs were some form of cole slaw. I just tossed the entire rubber maid with out opening it.

Would have to be some sour cream that really smelled awful after being lost for three months!
