Chef Profile: George Duran
Chef and Comic George Duran Talks About Tools and Cute Little Spoons
Editor’s Note: Today the inaugural issue of The Blowtorch, the new weekly email newsletter from BehindTheKnife.com, goes out to subscribers. It provides a recap of the previous week but also includes exclusive content and cookbook and tool giveaways that appear nowhere on the blog. Don’t miss out, subscribe now.
We recently conducted a video interview with George Duran, host of Ham on the Street on the Food Network.
Part of George’s spiel describes how you can have a garden party in the middle of winter — as well as his trusty companion, a can of Hunts Tomatoes — and he offers up a few tips on making pesto ice cubes and a tomato pesto tart — not really our thing here, but we’ll indulge him — but his choice of tools — as well as the one that got away, are quite amusing.
He’s the first chef I’ve met who actually names his tools. Is there a trend here? A new series at BehindTheKnife.com? Time will tell.
In any case, take a look:
Thanks, George!

He definitely has an attachment the things in his toolbox. I believe everything is replaceable, and can be improved on, but some tools just feel better in the hand than others.
