Tool of the Week: Kuhn Rikon Easy-Squeeze Garlic Press

—Contest now closed—

Apr082010

We’ve had heated discussions on the pros and cons of garlic presses here at BehindTheKnife.com in the past, but I always like to have several options for prepping garlic. I tend to pull out my press when I don’t want to wash another cutting board. I have at least two banging around my junk drawer, and have used them to squeeze ginger as well.

This week, to continue our ongoing celebration of National Garlic Month, we’re giving away a Kuhn Rikon Easy-Squeeze Garlic Press, a $20 value. Created by famed Swiss designer Phillipp Beyeler, our newest garlic press uses 60% less effort. Its powerful lever does the work for you.

Win one!

Win a Kuhn Rikon Easy-Squeeze Garlic Press, a $20 value.

  • Stainless steel sieve swings out for cleaning
  • Presses both garlic and ginger
  • Ergonomic easy-to-grip handle

Yes! We use tons of garlic, it makes life easier.

randi Apr 08 2010

I’ve never used one but I’m willind to try. I usually grate on a plane or mince.

Michelle Apr 08 2010

If i need to crush garlic i usually use a knife or even the mallet. I don’t know if I would go out of my way to obtain one of these, but I would certainly use it if I had one.

debp Apr 08 2010

I go through about 3 to 4 heads a garlic a month. I have to say no, I don’t use one, but that is only because I don’t have one. If I had a garlic press I would sure use it.

YES! I go through 2-3 heads of garlic a WEEK. but I hate unevenly chopped/crushed garlic chunks and I don’t have the knife skills to get them even and small in a reasonable amount of time. A garlic press is the perfect solution. I keep a head-worth of garlic peeled in a jar in the fridge, grab as many cloves as I want and press away, often directly into a hot pan.

Maureen Apr 08 2010

I would love a garlic press because I just threw out the second one in the last few months. The garlic is best when fresh. the reason I threw the others out is because they never really worked all that well.
I am married to an Italian who loves his Italian food and garlic is a part of it.

Peter D Apr 08 2010

I would likely use this as often as I make pasta. Remember to keep the garlic in a cool dark and dry place!

Tammy Klain Apr 08 2010

Definately YES!! Hubby eats so much garlic he sweats garlic..me I am a klutz and cannot use a knife without cutting myself :( So my garlic press is my best friend :)

gardenstatemom@aol.com

janeh Apr 08 2010

would be much easier and a lot less cleanup to use this rather than a cuttiing board and knife……….would definitely use this!

Joni Taylor Apr 08 2010

Yes to the garlic press! It makes using garlic easier, clean up easier and your hands don’t smell as bad.

carol Apr 08 2010

Timbo Apr 09 2010

Garlic Press?

Absolutely 100% OMG YES!

I have an Italian background and I deeply enjoy cooking for myself. Using freshly minced garlic with a garlic press is an absolutely MUST as you get to capture all those volatile fluids and oils that are the most saporific thing a tongue can taste!

Where would we be without garlic :D

Timbo Apr 09 2010

I’m also a subscriber :)

Timbo Apr 09 2010

I don’t know if I’m supposed to post this but I just tweeted this giveaway here :D

I’d love to have a garlic press! Cutting garlic by hand takes a long time, sometimes I cut my fingers, and the smell stays on my fingers for a long time! :)

Denise B. Apr 09 2010

I love garlic, and a garlic press is good for keeping the garlic fine and hidden from view of picky eaters.

Jay P. Apr 09 2010

After reading this post I am deleting this feed. Garlic press, get real. No way no how never.

Hannah Apr 09 2010

I am a yes to the garlic press and some people can be very funny about eating garlic if you don’t cut it small enough the garlic press works a treat. It also means that you keep the juice that you would usually lose when just chopping it up!

Kalani Kircher Black Apr 09 2010

We haven’t had a garlic press in years- but I’d sure like one! Especially since we LOVE garlic!

Brian Poore Apr 09 2010

In my house, cooking is not a spectator sport. I run my kitchen in a way that includes family and guest participation, and I have found that people who don’t cook on their own find that first taste of work in the kitchen incredibly satisfying. Often, that simple task of using a garlic press for the first time – which nearly anyone can do – is the gateway drug that leads people into greater highs in their own kitchens. Send me one, and I’ll put it to good use…

Valerie Apr 09 2010

I do not have one but think I would like one to try.

Robbie Apr 09 2010

Danielle Crown Apr 10 2010

Yes – i love garlic and always have a jar of garlic in my fridge but i would love to have a press to be able to use fresh garlic

Rosie Apr 10 2010

Yes! I use garlic in almost everything. I love it. But I make a mess when I’m too lazy to bring out the huge chopping board and instead squish the garlic on the kitchen table with a knife so my table gets stained and smells like garlic. A garlic press would make chopping garlic so much easier.

Deborah Wellenstein Apr 16 2010

Yes-presses make short work of mincing garlic.

Deborah R Apr 16 2010
