Tool of the Week: Wicked Edge Sharpener Take Two
—Contest now closed—
Far be it for me to dig in my heels when something obviously isn’t working.
Besides, I’m not the most patient person in the world.
So after receiving only two comments on Friday and NO entries, the jury has decided: You guys clearly don’t like games of skill, preferring the easy-come tenor of enter-and-win.
And so I am relaunching Friday’s Tool of the Week sans the contest element. Now it’s a pure giveaway. And away we go:
Knives, knives, knives!
Some might say we’re obsessed. After all, what else could explain the recent spate of posts on knife sharpening back in December?
I think we have a pretty good excuse: after all, the word is part of our name, right?
But when it comes down to what it takes to be a truly great professional — or amateur — cook really boils down to a few simple things: Kitchen skills, and more specifically, the ability and confidence to handle a knife.
Food Network co-star Beau MacMillan touched on this point in his recent profile here at BehindTheKnife.com.
To wit: “A prep cook uses a prep knife while a chef uses a chef knife. You graduate with the tool and the title, and you don’t use the tool until you’re ready.”
We say amen to that. Which brings us to the next installment of Tool of the Week: The Wicked Edge Precision Sharpener.
Features include:
- 8 Diamond Stones, 2 each in 100, 200, 400 and 600 grits
- Continuously variable angle adjustment from 15 to 30 degrees
- Machined from aircraft-grade aluminum, stainless steel and space-age composite materials
- Alignment Tools for precision mounting
- Knife Brace for sharpening flexible blades
This thing is a real workhorse. As is the case on Christmas morning, it requires a bit of assembly before the fun starts. You’ll bolt the sharpener to a counter and then go to town. What better way to be reminded to sharpen your knives regularly when the Wicked Edge is right there?
Win one!
This is a whopping $240 value, the highest-value Tool of the Week ever featured at BehindTheKnife.com. So we’re gonna extend this into a contest that lasts a week and a half, giving everyone plenty of time to get the word out and win.
Leave a comment below by Friday, February 12th, 11:59 EDT. This week, comment about this: What’s the worst knife you’ve ever used in your life?

Do I have to repost my entire story, or can I just say to read my comment from the previous post.
Also, the reason that I didn’t send a pic or video of the horrible state of my parent’s knife drawer is that it is a bit of a trip to take that picture, and they aren’t technologically savvy enough to read email, let alone have them take a picture and send it to me.
My knives at home are actually very sharp right now, because I just bought them for class. Although if anyone wants to see a picture of the knife set I purchased for class I can take a few pics. It was actually a great deal for $200.
It contains a Chef knife, Paring knife, Boning knife, Bread knife, Carving knife, Truing Steel, a large and small offset spatula, measuring spoons, melon baller, fish turner, pastry brush, cake comb, pastry bag with tips, shears which come completely apart for cleaning, peeler, instant read thermometer, and a few other things I can’t remember off the top of my head. All in a very nice case with room for more tools as I buy them.
